Seripop
Last night I went to my local screen printing studio to see a talk by screening printing duo Seripop. I have been interested in the poster scene for a while and have spent a lot of time looking into different illustrators’ work, not only because of the current surface pattern trend but because I can see it expanding over next few years.
There is a trend that I have picked up and I am currently researching into further which is seeing an eclectic mixture of patterns and textures. This is in a way a backlash against the consumerism and mass production that we have indulged in the last few years. In a way it takes us back to how it used to be, and also gives artists a voice.
Anyway, back to Seripop, they were very inspiring, they discussed the poster community in Montreal and the politics behind it. They really advocate a life against consumerism as they are both artists and musicians who live very much for ther art. The picture below, I have chosen because I love the repetition of the images and how they are all layered on top of each other – which is a reference back to fly-postering.
