Bold, bright but not brash

One of the colour trends that I picked up on when I was at Premier Vision in september was the use of bold colour in homewares. I have noticed more and more that the days of subtle colour palettes are fast becoming a thing of the past and that consumers want to have fun in their homes again and stamp their individuality. Being a fan of the more subtle colour palette what I love it the idea of having neutral base but incorporating bold flashes of acidic colour, I think this can sometimes have a more powerful effect.
More trends to follow tomorrow.
a week in Paris
I love Paris, one of the memorable moments of 2010 was my birthday trip to Paris with my fiance. We just spent 3 days eating, drinking wine and people watching, it was quite literally the best. However I didn’t look quite as cool as the models in the new Free People campaign, named a week in Paris. I vow next time I will, even with comfortable shoes.

Lets kick off the new year with some of my great sources of inspiration, and maybe later in the week I’ll throw in some trend information for the next year.

Pinterest is a social catalog service, its a virtual pinboard, a place where you can post collections of things you love, and “follow” collections created by people with great taste, such as Oh Joy and Creature Comforts. I find it an excellent source of inspiration and its so helpful that I can store images I find inspiring without clogging up my hard drive, plus when I have a project I can search for relevant images.
* One of my (many) new years resolutions is to take more photographs.

Rachel Eardley
At the moment I am obsessed with drawing houses, I think its because I like to day dream I live in them. I saw Rachel Eardley’s work last week at GNCFF and whilst on her stand I heard her explain to someone how she loved to draw the scenes from windows. It struck a cord with me because I like to draw looking in, imagining the lives people have, living in there beautiful homes.
The Book Tree Press
I visited the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair on friday night and my favourite stand of the whole show was The Book Tree Press which is ran by Lucy Roscoe. I could have brought everything, if it wasnt for the fiance tightening the purse strings (boo!) but I still managed to get a lovely coptic stitch notebook and a few cards. Lucy graduated from Edinburgh College of Art this year and had already taken part in many exhibtions showcasing her gorgeous handbound, hand cut book arts. Not only does Lucy produce amazing books but her illustrations and designs work makes me incredibly jealous of her talent. She is definitely one to watch.
