Hollie Brown

Hollie Brown graduated from her surface pattern degree in 2007. Shortly after she attended the New Designers exhibition where she won the “New Designers Hallmark Award 2007″.

Following New Designers London, Hollie completed several work placements with leading greeting card companies

and publishing houses.  Working with the professional studios was a great learning opportunity and  gave her a good knowledge of how the industry works. With this in mind she set up a studio at home, in the picturesque farming village of Barkby in Leicestershire.

Hollie’s work is gorgeous and it has a real feminine, dreamlike quality about it. You can see more of her work here. Each piece is finished by hand, embellished with stitch, found papers and fabric making each print an individual piece.

Caroline Kirton

This is first of a week of emails focusing on my favorites from the Great Northern contemporary craft fair.

The first is Caroline Kirton and her wonderful pieces of art that focus on teenagers. I cant explain it as beautifully as it is written on her website so here is a quote.

what a beautfiul day

“My work has developed into snap shots of how I view teenage life, by observing my daughters and their friends. It is an observation of my relationship with my daughters as they progress through their teenage years, and considers how this relationship is always evolving.  My work is also concerned with the issues of control and how young people often feel they have no real control over their lives because of parental and official boundaries.  In addition I am trying to come to terms with the issues associated with letting go, as I try to rationalise my own thoughts and feelings, of having to allow my children to grow up and become independent people in their own right.”

she well proper had a go at me and stuff

what u doin u loser

Check out the titles for each piece, its genius.
