The A4 Draw

The A4 Draw gives you the chance to win an A4 piece of work by established artists, designers and illustrators, as well as graphic design students from South Essex College. The proceeds go towards their final year show and also the D&AD New Blood show. Its a great way to raise funds, promote the work of new designers and hopefully fingers crossed for us to own a piece by a featured artist. The artists include the great Rob Ryan, Kate Forrester and Gemma Correll.

Tickets can be bought for £4 from the Folksy shop, and winners will be drawn at random in early March.

Rob Ryan

Yesterday the fella and I went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in West Yorkshire to check out the Rob Ryan exhibition and to have a little walk around the park. I have been a fan of Rob Ryan’s work for a while now and find his whimsical illustrations and cut outs really inspiring. I love the naivety of his work and this has really influenced my designs. I really like the Yorkshire Sculpture parks visitors centre. Its really airy and bright and is a great space to show art. Rob had been commissioned to create a 22 meter wide by 4 meter high decorated window vinyl which sits alongside some of his previous work. The fact the art is on a window gives his work a different feel as you can see the trees and plants outside alongside the strong bold graphics.

I left the sculpture park fully stocked up on books and cards of his work that I plan to dot around my flat. The book that has been created to sit alongside the exhibition is great as you see Robs studio and you get so see how the work is created. It made me so excited to get back in the print studio on wednesday.
