This feels like one of those really awkward moments when you meet a friend that you haven’t seen for a while; you know that you should have text, maybe dropped them a line, but unfortunately life got in the way. So let’s just gloss over the fact I haven’t blogged in quite a while, I’m not going to give you any silly excuses except, well, life just got in the way.
Ok, so what is the reason behind my sudden desire to start blogging again? A few weeks ago I was talking with a designer friend of mine and we were discussing our lack of inspiration, about how when we’re out shopping, everything looks the same. As designers, we are all looking to the same sources of inspiration. We go to the same cities, read the same blogs and spend our days trawling through Pinterest, looking at the same images. No wonder everything is looking the same! Don’t get me wrong, I love Pinterest – I spend hours on it – but there has been quite a few occasions recently when I’ve hit on an original idea, only to realise soon after that it wasn’t truly original because I had unconsciously digested it on Pinterest.
So, with this in mind, I have decided to start a personal quest to look beyond the usual sources and explore originality. I’ve signed up for the Cool Hunting course at Central St Martins, which I start this week, and I am going to document everything I find right here.
